puruṣamṛgáś candrámaso godhā́ kā́lakā dārvāghā́ṭas te vanaspátīnām kṛkavā́kuḥ sāvitró haṃsó vā́tasya nā́kro mákaraḥ kulī́payas te ’kūpā́rasya hriyái śalyákaḥ
Translation
The man-beast is of the Moon; the iguana, the kālaka, the wood-striker—these are of the Lords of the forest. The kṛkavāku is Savitṛ’s; the goose is of Wind. The crocodile, the makara, the kulīpaya—these are of Akūpāra; for Hri (Modesty/Grace) is the śalyaka.
