Pavamāna Soma’s purifying flow as the power that exhilarates Indra for heroic action and brings wealth to the sacrificer
Soma Pavamāna (as the flowing purified Soma)
Urgent forward-driving praise (stuti) with a ‘flowing’ momentum suited to pavamāna imagery and Indra’s martial vigor
The selection draws on the broader Pavamāna and Aindra materials; precise ṛṣi attribution requires Ṛgvedic concordance for each mantra in this Sāmavedic arrangement.
Pavamāna Soma: filtration/clarification and directing the purified Soma toward deity-drinking portions (vīti) within the Soma sacrifice
Mantra 1
At the three pressings the Bull, of vast impetuosity, being satisfied, drank the Soma mingled with barley, pressed with (the aid of) Viṣṇu; he was exhilarated to perform a great deed, (to smite) the great obstruction: the god attended the god; O true (Indra).
Mantra 2
साकं जातः क्रतुना साकमोजसा ववक्षिथ साकं वृद्धो वीर्यैः सासहिर्मृधो दाता राध स्तुवते काम्यं वसु प्रचेतन सैनं सश्चद्देवो देवं सत्य
Born together with resolve, together with vigour hast thou waxed; together grown with heroic powers, conquering the assaults; giver of wealth to the praiser, (bestowing) desirable riches; O wise (Indra): the god attended the god; O true one.
Mantra 3
Then, with superior vigour, this his energy became (effective) in battle against the Kṛvi; by his greatness he filled the two worlds; he smote away another (foe); he caused (him) to perish within his belly: do thou, (Indra), impel (thy power); the god attended the god; O true one.
It urges purified (pavamāna) Soma to flow rightly in the Soma rite—invigorating Indra for great deeds and bringing the sacrificer wealth and well-being.
They reflect an offering order and shared entitlement to Soma: Vāyu is often first to receive, Mitra–Varuṇa follow as guardians of order, and Indra is strengthened for victory and obstacle-removal.
It points to the tri-savana structure of the Soma sacrifice—morning, midday, and evening pressings—within which Soma is pressed, purified, offered, and drunk by the gods.
