Indrajit and Lakshmana: War-Boasts, Rebuke, and the Clash
रैरतिमहावेगैर्वेगवान्रावणात्मजः ।।।।सौमित्रिमिन्द्रजिद्युद्धेविव्याधशुभलक्षणम् ।
śarair atimahā-vegair vegavān rāvaṇātmajaḥ |
saumitriṁ indrajid yuddhe vivyādha śubha-lakṣaṇam ||
စစ်ပွဲအတွင်း ရာဝဏ၏သား အင်ဒြဇစ်သည် လျင်မြန်သန်မာ၍ မဟာအရှိန်ဖြင့် ပျံသန်းသော မြားများဖြင့် မင်္ဂလာလက္ခဏာပြည့်စုံသည့် ဆောမိတ္ရီ (လက္ခမဏ) ကို ထိုးဖောက်လေ၏။
Lifting his long, strong huge, great terrific bow endowed with high speed and holding it drawing arrows seated in a chariot well decorated, drawn by black horses, Indrajith looked like God of Death.
Auspiciousness (śubha-lakṣaṇa) does not prevent suffering; dharma is tested under pain. The epic teaches that righteousness is proven by perseverance, not by exemption from hardship.
Indrajit intensifies his attack and wounds Lakṣmaṇa with very high-velocity arrows.
Lakṣmaṇa’s steadfast dedication to duty (brotherly service aligned with dharma) is highlighted by his continued presence in the war despite injury.
