शौनक उवाच
Sense-contact triggers the mind’s previously formed intentions and latent desires; therefore, ethical steadiness requires guarding the senses and recognizing how past resolve and impressions reassert themselves.
Śaunaka states a general principle about inner life: when the senses turn outward to their objects, the mind—conditioned by earlier mental formations—manifests and becomes agitated, setting the stage for further discussion on restraint and conduct.
