Educational Q&A

Even when one attains honor or refuge in exalted places, the ethical consequences of past wrongdoing—here, the dice-born conflict—continue to demand reflection. The verse underscores accountability: inner remembrance of error becomes a spur toward rectification and steadfast dharma.

Arjuna states that he lived for five years in Indra’s abode, and during that time he kept recalling the discord caused by the gambling episode. The line situates his celestial sojourn within the larger arc of the Pandavas’ suffering and the unresolved moral and political fallout of the dice game.
