अम्बाया निर्वेदः तपोव्रताभ्यर्थना च
Ambā’s Despair and Petition for Ascetic Vows
मया शाल्वपति: पूर्व मनसाभिवृतो वर: । तेन चास्मि वृता पूर्व रहस्यविदिते पितु:
mayā śālvapatiḥ pūrvaṁ manasābhivṛto varaḥ | tena cāsmi vṛtā pūrvaṁ rahasyavidite pituḥ ||
«ငါသည် စိတ်ထဲ၌ အရင်ကတည်းက ရှာလ္ဝမင်းကို ခင်ပွန်းအဖြစ် ရွေးချယ်ထားပြီးသားဖြစ်၏။ သူလည်း အရင်ကပင် တိတ်တဆိတ် ငါ့ကို လက်ခံခဲ့သည်—ဤအကြောင်းသည် လျှို့ဝှက်ထား၍ ငါ့အဖေတောင် မသိခဲ့»။
भीष्म उवाच

A woman’s earlier, private commitment is being disclosed: she says she had mentally chosen the king of Śālva as her husband and that he had reciprocated, and that this was kept secret from her father—setting up a dispute about rightful marriage and responsibility.
