Adhyāya 270 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s inquiry on saṃnyāsa; Bhīṣma on calculable time, tamas, and karma
Vṛtra–Uśanā exemplum begins
भीष्म उवाच ततस्तदेव बहुश: कुण्डधारो महायशा: । अभ्यासमकरोद् धर्मे ततस्तुष्टास्तु देवता:
bhīṣma uvāca tatastadeva bahuśaḥ kuṇḍadhāro mahāyaśāḥ | abhyāsamakarod dharme tatastuṣṭāstu devatāḥ ||
ဘီရှ္မက ပြောသည်– ထို့နောက် အလွန်ကျော်ကြားသော ကုဏ္ဍဓာရသည် ထိုအချက်တည်းကိုပင် မကြာခဏ ထပ်မံအတည်ပြု၍ ပြောကြားလေ၏။ ဗြာဟ္မဏ၏ ဓမ္မကို ခိုင်မာစေလိုသဖြင့် ထိုအကြောင်းကို မလျော့မတင်း တိုက်တွန်းခဲ့ရာ၊ ထိုတည်ကြည်သော အတင်းအကျပ်ကြောင့် နတ်တို့သည် ပျော်ရွှင်နှစ်သက်ကြ၏။
