Adhyāya 115: On Restraint Under Verbal Provocation in the Assembly
iti saṁślāghate nityaṁ tena pāpena karmaṇā | idam ukto mayā kaścit sammato jana-saṁsadi ||
The verse criticizes the moral blindness of one who not only commits a sinful act but also continually boasts about it; it implies that ethical degradation is intensified when wrongdoing becomes a source of pride and public self-praise.
Bhīṣma reports a detail he has learned—attributed to a respected person in an assembly—about someone who habitually glorifies himself on account of a sinful deed, using this report as part of his broader instruction on conduct and moral discernment.
