पाणिकर्णा: सहस्राक्षास्तथैव च महोदरा: । निर्मासा: काकवकत्राश्ष श्येनवक्त्राक्ष भारत

sañjaya uvāca |

pāṇikarṇāḥ sahasrākṣās tathaiva ca mahodarāḥ |

nirmāsāḥ kākavaktrāś ca śyenavaktrākṣa bhārata |

jvālākēśāś ca rājendra jvaladromacaturbhujāḥ |

meṣavaktrās tathaivānye tathā chāgamukhā nṛpa ||

သဉ္ဇယက ပြောသည်– «ဗာရတသားရေ၊ လက်ကို နားကဲ့သို့ရှိသူများလည်း ရှိ၍၊ မျက်စိတစ်ထောင်ရှိသူများလည်း ရှိကာ၊ ဝမ်းဗိုက်ကြီးမားသူများလည်း ထိုနည်းတူ ရှိ၏။ အချို့မှာ အသားမရှိ၊ အချို့မှာ ကျီးကန်းမျက်နှာ၊ အချို့မှာ သိမ်းငှက်ကဲ့သို့ မျက်နှာနှင့် မျက်စိရှိကြ၏။ အို မင်းကြီး၊ သူတို့၏ ဆံပင်သည် မီးလျှံကဲ့သို့ တောက်လောင်၍၊ ကိုယ်ပေါ်ရှိ အမွှေးတစ်ချောင်းချင်းစီတောင် မီးလောင်သကဲ့သို့ ထင်ရ၏။ သူတို့အားလုံးတွင် လက်လေးဖက်ရှိ၏။ ထို့ပြင် အို အုပ်စိုးရှင်၊ အချို့များမှာ သိုးမျက်နှာ၊ အချို့များမှာ ဆိတ်မျက်နှာရှိကြ၏»။

Educational Q&A

The verse uses grotesque, inhuman imagery to mark the moral inversion of the night slaughter: when violence breaks the codes of righteous warfare, the world is portrayed as filled with ominous, demonic signs.
