Aśvatthāmā’s Buddhi-Doctrine and Nocturnal Incursion Resolve (अश्वत्थाम्नः बुद्धिविचारः सौप्तिकसंकल्पश्च)
दुर्योधनस्य कर्णस्य भीष्मसैन्धवयोरपि । गमयिष्यामि पञ्चालान् पदवीमद्य दुर्गमाम्,“आज पांचालोंको दुर्योधन, कर्ण, भीष्म तथा जयद्रथके दुर्गम मार्गपर भेजकर छोड़ूँगा
duryodhanasya karṇasya bhīṣmasaindhavayor api | gamayiṣyāmi pañcālān padavīm adya durgamām ||
Sañjaya said: “Today I shall send the Pāñcālas along a path that is hard to traverse—the very road taken by Duryodhana, Karṇa, Bhīṣma, and Jayadratha.” In context, the line conveys grim resolve: the speaker frames the Pāñcālas’ impending fate as being driven toward the same perilous end as the great Kaurava champions, underscoring the ruthless momentum of war where pride and vengeance eclipse restraint.
