Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the sheer, sweeping force of war: strength and skill can rapidly overturn even formidable units like elephants and elite cavalry. Ethically, it serves as a sober reminder that battlefield glory is inseparable from large-scale harm, pressing the listener to reflect on the grave cost that accompanies kṣatriya valor.

Sañjaya reports that a mighty fighter, surging through the fight, crushes war-elephants, overpowers other opponents, and fells excellent horsemen in the melee—depicting a moment of decisive dominance amid the chaos of combat.
