Chapter 49
इदं श्रेय इदं श्रेय इत्येवं व्युत्थितो जन: । यो हि यस्मिन् रतो धर्मे स तं पूजयते सदा
idaṁ śreya idaṁ śreya ityevaṁ vyutthito janaḥ | yo hi yasmin rato dharme sa taṁ pūjayate sadā ||
«ဤဟာက ကောင်းကျိုးလမ်း၊ ဤဟာက ကောင်းကျိုးလမ်း» ဟူသော အပြိုင်အဆိုင်ဆိုသံများကို ကြားရသဖြင့် လူတို့သည် စိတ်မတည်မငြိမ် ဖြစ်ကာ အမျိုးမျိုးသောဘက်သို့ ဆွဲငင်ခံရ၏။ အကြောင်းမှာ လူတစ်ဦးသည် မိမိစွဲလမ်းနှစ်သက်နေသော ဓမ္မကိုသာ အမြဲတမ်း ဂုဏ်ပြုလေးစားတတ်သည်; မိမိကပ်လျက်နေသော လမ်းစဉ်ကိုသာ အစဉ်အမြဲ ရိုသေတတ်၏။

Such competing assertions can unsettle society, because individuals naturally honor and defend the dharma to which they are personally devoted. Vāyudeva comments on how the populace becomes disturbed by hearing many voices each insisting, ‘This alone is the path of welfare.’ He explains the psychological reason: each person praises and venerates the dharma in which he is engaged, leading to disagreement and confusion.
