The verse frames an ethical inquiry: after victory and restoration of power, how should rulers treat an elder relative and former king—especially one connected to past wrongdoing? It points to dharma as measured conduct, restraint, and respect for elders even amid justified grievances.
Janamejaya asks the narrator to describe the Pāṇḍavas’ behavior after they regained sovereignty—specifically their attitude and treatment of Dhṛtarāṣṭra—setting up the Ashramavāsika narrative of post-war life, responsibility, and reconciliation.
