भीष्म उवाच अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम्‌ । अष्टावक्रस्य संवादं दिशया सह भारत,भीष्मजीने कहा--भरतनन्दन! इस विषयमें अष्टावक्र मुनिका उत्तर दिशाकी अधिष्ठात्रीदेवीके साथ जो संवाद हुआ था, उसी प्राचीन इतिहासका उदाहरण दिया जाता है

bhīṣma uvāca | atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam | aṣṭāvakrasya saṃvādaṃ diśayā saha bhārata |

ဘီရှ္မက ပြောသည်—«အို ဘာရတမျိုးနွယ်! ဤအကြောင်းတွင်လည်း ရှေးဟောင်းအတိတ်သမိုင်းတစ်ပုဒ်ကို ဥပမာအဖြစ် ထုတ်ပြကြသည်—အဋ္ဌာဝကရ မုနိနှင့် မြောက်ဘက်ဦးတည်ရာ၏ အုပ်စိုးသမီးတော် (ဒေဝီ) တို့၏ ဆွေးနွေးပွဲပင် ဖြစ်သည်။ ဤဟောင်းနွမ်းသော အကြောင်းအရာကို ပြန်လည်ဖော်ထုတ်ခြင်းဖြင့် မှန်ကန်သော အကျင့်အကြံကို အာဏာရှိသော ဥပမာဖြင့် ထင်ရှားစေသည်»။
