य इच्छेत् पुरुषो5त्यन्तमात्मानं निरुपद्रवम् | स वर्जयेत मांसानि प्राणिनामिह सर्वश:,जो मनुष्य अपने आपको अत्यन्त उपद्रवरहित बनाये रखना चाहता हो, वह इस जगतमें प्राणियोंके मांसका सर्वथा परित्याग कर दे
ya icchet puruṣo ’tyantam ātmānaṃ nirupadravam | sa varjayet māṃsāni prāṇinām iha sarvaśaḥ ||
ဘီရှ္မက ပြောသည်— «မိမိကိုယ်ကို အလွန်အမင်း အန္တရာယ်ကင်း၍ အနှောင့်အယှက်ကင်းစေလိုသောသူသည် ဤလောက၌ သက်ရှိသတ္တဝါတို့၏ အသားကို အကုန်လုံး စွန့်လွှတ်သင့်သည်»။
भीष्म उवाच
To remain truly free from harm and inner disturbance, one should practice ahiṃsā in a concrete way by completely avoiding the consumption of meat, since it implies injury to living beings.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s dharma-instructions, Bhīṣma continues advising on righteous conduct; here he gives a direct rule of personal discipline linking peace/safety (nirupadravatva) with abstention from meat.
