गन्धर्व उवाच
The verse highlights steadfast tapas—disciplined endurance without interruption (night and day)—and suggests that sincere effort in dharma-oriented austerity draws the guidance of realized sages, here symbolized by Vasiṣṭha’s auspicious arrival.
A king (lord of men) continues his austerities in a single spot through day and night. On the twelfth day, the great brahmin-sage Vasiṣṭha arrives at that place, marking a significant turning point where counsel or resolution is expected.
