Maitreya (addressing Sage Parāśara as his Guru)
Concept: The true guru is recognized by a mind purified and matured by the discipline of non-dual wisdom.
Vedantic Theme: Moksha
Application: Seek teachers whose conduct and understanding show steadiness, humility, and clarity, and approach them with sincere discipleship.
Vishishtadvaita: Even when 'advaita' language is used, the Purana frames liberation as attained through right knowledge received in a disciplic relationship, consistent with grace-mediated realization.
Vishnu Form: Para-Brahman
Bhakti Type: Shanta
This verse frames the Guru as the living standard of a mind purified by liberating insight; such a teacher is recognized as essential for steady knowledge leading toward liberation.
Here it is portrayed as a deep mental refinement—an inner formation of consciousness—so complete that it becomes the hallmark of an authentic ācārya.
In the Moksha-focused book, purification and right instruction are presented as the pathway to realizing the Supreme Reality; in Vaishnava framing, that highest reality is ultimately oriented toward Vishnu as the supreme truth.
