Sage Parāśara (narrating to Maitreya)

Cosmic Hierarchy: Lokas

Concept: Time repeatedly passes while desire reappears in refined forms (even as ‘pleasant’ affection), keeping the mind oriented toward transient goals.

Vedantic Theme: Maya

Application: Notice how attachment disguises itself as ‘harmless’ sweetness; renew discrimination (viveka) and aim beyond temporary rewards.

Vishishtadvaita: By implication, the jīva’s qualities and emotions are real yet need rightful alignment toward the Supreme, not toward karma-bound heavens.

FAQs

In this verse it signals a karmic or divinely-ordained transition in the narrative—an exit from the earthly storyline into a higher realm (svarga), often marking the completion of a destined episode.

He compresses long durations (here, more than a hundred years) into a single narrative marker to keep the dynastic flow intact while emphasizing the inevitability of change under cosmic order.

Even when Vishnu is not named in the verse, the Purana frames such transitions—time, destiny, and heavenly ascent—within Vishnu’s sovereign governance of dharma and the cosmic order.
