शिवपुराण-प्रशंसा (Praise of the Śiva Purāṇa) / Śivapurāṇa Māhātmya
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: The ‘rising’ of Śiva Purāṇa is portrayed as a world-remedy; pilgrimage and public kathā in Śiva temples are implied as communal antidotes to adharma.
Cosmic Event: Kali-yuga moral proliferation (pāpa-vijṛmbhaṇa) until the advent/proclamation of Śiva-kathā
It declares that collective sin and spiritual decline persist until the Śiva Purāṇa is revealed and heard; the text is presented as a grace-bearing means that awakens Śiva-bhakti and initiates the cleansing of pāpa, even the heaviest forms.
In the Vidyeśvarasaṃhitā, the Śiva Purāṇa functions as a doorway into Saguna Śiva-upāsanā—especially devotion to the Liṅga—by restoring right understanding and inspiring practices that turn the mind from pāpa toward Śiva as Pati (the liberating Lord).
The implied practice is Śiva Purāṇa-śravaṇa/pāṭha (hearing/recitation) as a purifying sādhana, ideally supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Liṅga-pūjā to stabilize devotion.
