भैरवावतारवर्णनम् (Bhairavāvatāra-varṇanam) — “Description of the Descent/Manifestation of Bhairava”
स कोपतस्समुत्पाद्य पुरुषं भैरवं क्वचित् । प्रज्वलन्तं सुमहसा प्रीत्या च परमेश्वरः
sa kopatassamutpādya puruṣaṃ bhairavaṃ kvacit | prajvalantaṃ sumahasā prītyā ca parameśvaraḥ
Kemudian, daripada murka-Nya yang dahsyat, Tuhan Yang Maha Tinggi menzahirkan suatu wujud—Bhairava—yang menyala dengan cahaya kemilau yang amat besar; dan Parameśvara, berkenan dalam diri-Nya, memandang penzahiran itu dengan restu.

It shows that Parameśvara’s fierce energy can manifest as a protective, grace-bearing form (Bhairava). Even wrath here is not mere anger—it is Shiva’s conscious power that removes obstacles and restores dharma, guiding devotees toward liberation.
Bhairava is a Saguna (with-form) revelation of the same Parameśvara worshiped as the Linga. The verse supports Shaiva practice: one Reality is approached through specific forms suited to protection, purification, and the devotee’s temperament.
A practical takeaway is to take refuge in Shiva through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and protective remembrance of Bhairava; traditional Shaiva disciplines like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa support steadiness and fearlessness in sadhana.
