सा गत्वा गहनेऽरण्ये तेपे सुवि मलं तपः । शंकरम्पतिमिच्छन्ती सखीभ्यां संयुता शिवा । तत्तपःसुपरीक्षार्थं सप्तर्षीन्प्रैषयच्छिवः । तपःस्थानं तु पार्वत्या नानालीलाविशारदः

Dia pergi ke rimba yang lebat lalu menjalankan tapa yang amat suci, dengan hasrat menjadikan Śaṅkara sebagai suami. Sang Śivā yang mulia itu, ditemani dua sahabatnya, menunaikan pertapaan tersebut. Untuk menguji sepenuhnya mutu tapasnya, Tuhan Śiva—mahir dalam pelbagai lila ilahi—mengutus Tujuh Ṛṣi ke tempat Pārvatī bertapa.
