Invocation of Vīrabhadra/Bhairava for Cosmic Reabsorption
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s infinite radiance within the Shatarudra discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: The ‘radiance’ beyond embodied sight aligns with the jyoti-stambha idea: the Lord as ungraspable light known only to subtle vision.
Significance: Encourages inner purification (sūkṣma-dṛṣṭi) as prerequisite for darśana of the supreme; frames pilgrimage as inward seeing, not merely ocular viewing.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: Ineffability of divine tejas; limitation of embodied perception vs subtle seership.
It teaches that Shiva’s transcendent radiance cannot be grasped by ordinary, sense-bound perception; only a purified, subtle inner vision can apprehend the Supreme—pointing to liberation through spiritual refinement rather than mere intellectual or sensory approach.
The Linga and Saguna forms serve as compassionate supports for meditation, leading the devotee from gross perception to subtle realization, where Shiva’s limitless tejas is intuited beyond form.
Cultivate subtle perception through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), steady dhyāna on the Linga, and Shaiva disciplines such as Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha as aids to inner purification.
