Brāhmaṇī-Svargati-Varṇana: Account of a Brāhmaṇa Woman’s Ascent to Heaven
गौरुवाच । एवं जानाम्यहं पुत्र माया मां न जहात्यसौ । त्वद्दुःखेन सुदुःखं मे तस्मै दास्ये तदेव हि
gauruvāca | evaṃ jānāmyahaṃ putra māyā māṃ na jahātyasau | tvadduḥkhena suduḥkhaṃ me tasmai dāsye tadeva hi
Gaurī berkata: “Wahai anakku, demikianlah aku memahami—Māyā ini tidak meninggalkan aku. Dukacitamu membuat aku sangat berdukacita; maka kepada dia akan aku berikan juga hal itu (jawapan/karunia) sebagaimana patut.”

Sthala Purana: Gaurī acknowledges the inescapability of Māyā’s veiling and responds compassionately to the devotee’s suffering, foreshadowing a remedial act (boon/permission) that will lead toward a purificatory sacred site.
Significance: Frames pilgrimage and divine aid as responses to suffering under Māyā, preparing the ground for grace (anugraha) through a tīrtha/Śiva-site.

Gaurī acknowledges Māyā’s binding presence even for embodied beings, and reveals a key Shaiva insight: compassion and grace respond to the devotee’s suffering, guiding the soul toward Shiva’s protection and liberation.
In Saguna worship (Linga worship included), the devotee approaches Shiva through the compassionate divine forms—Śiva and Śakti. Gaurī’s response shows that divine grace actively answers distress, supporting the devotee’s faith and steadiness in worship.
A practical takeaway is prayerful surrender with japa—especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—offered with humility when afflicted by sorrow, seeking Śiva-Śakti’s anugraha (grace) to transcend Māyā.
