Vishnu’s Thousand-Name Hymn and Shiva’s Grace
त्वयि भक्तिर्महादेव प्रसीद वरमुत्तमम् । नान्यमिच्छामि भक्तानामार्त्तयो नैव यत्प्रभो
tvayi bhaktirmahādeva prasīda varamuttamam | nānyamicchāmi bhaktānāmārttayo naiva yatprabho
“Wahai Mahādeva, biarlah bhakti hamba tertambat pada-Mu—berkenanlah dan kurniakanlah anugerah yang tertinggi. Hamba tidak menginginkan yang lain, wahai Tuhan; bagi para bhakta, tiada dukacita apabila Engkau menjadi tempat berlindung.”

The verse elevates bhakti itself as the supreme boon: in Shaiva Siddhanta, the highest grace is steadfast devotion to Pati (Shiva), through which the soul is protected from suffering and guided toward liberation.
It supports Saguna worship—approaching Mahadeva as the compassionate Lord who grants grace. In Kotirudra contexts (Jyotirlinga themes), the devotee’s aim is not worldly gain but unwavering devotion while worshiping Shiva in the Linga-form.
A practical takeaway is to seek only bhakti while performing Shiva worship: japa of the Panchakshara ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), Linga-abhiṣeka with a prayer for devotion, and steady remembrance of Shiva as refuge—especially on Mahashivratri.
