गृहीतशिश्न उत्थाय ततो गच्छेज्जलाशयम् । उद्धृत्य वार्यथान्यायं शौचं कुर्यादतन्द्रितः
gṛhītaśiśna utthāya tato gacchejjalāśayam | uddhṛtya vāryathānyāyaṃ śaucaṃ kuryādatandritaḥ
Setelah bangun sambil memegang kemaluannya, hendaklah dia pergi ke tempat takungan air. Dengan mencedok air menurut kaedah yang ditetapkan, hendaklah dia melakukan śauca (penyucian) tanpa cuai.
Suta Goswami (narrating prescribed conduct as taught in the Kailasa Samhita tradition)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga narrative; it belongs to dinācāra/śauca-vidhi, emphasizing bodily discipline as prerequisite for Śiva-upāsanā.
Significance: Teaches that purity and attentiveness (atandrita) are part of sādhana; the ‘tīrtha’ here is the immediate water-source used for śauca.
It teaches that external cleanliness (śauca) and alertness are foundational disciplines for approaching Shiva-worship; bodily order supports inner steadiness for japa, dhyāna, and devotion to Pati (Shiva).
Linga-puja is traditionally preceded by purification; this verse situates śauca as a prerequisite so that the devotee approaches Saguna Shiva with ritual fitness, restraint, and reverence.
Perform proper water-based purification (ācamanā/śauca as per rule) with attentiveness, as preparation for Shiva’s worship, mantra-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and other daily observances.
