Sampāti’s Account and the Sage Niśākara
तमृषिं द्रष्टुकामोऽस्मि दुःखेनाभ्यागतो भृशम्।जटायुषा मया चैव बहुशोऽभिगतो हि सः।।4.60.11।।
tam ṛṣiṃ draṣṭu-kāmo 'smi duḥkhena abhyāgato bhṛśam | jaṭāyuṣā mayā caiva bahuśo 'bhigato hi saḥ || 4.60.11 ||
Aku ingin sekali menatap resi itu; dengan kesukaran yang amat berat aku datang ke sana, kerana dahulu Jatāyu dan aku telah berkali-kali mengunjunginya.
'In the vicinity of that hermitage there was no tree without flowers or fruits and fragrant was the breeze that blew around.
Dharma here is perseverance in seeking righteous guidance: even hardship is accepted when the goal is to approach a realized sage and learn what is true and beneficial.
Sampāti recounts how he struggled to reach a particular sage, noting that he and his brother Jatāyu had visited the sage repeatedly.
Steadfastness and humility—Sampāti values spiritual counsel enough to endure difficulty and to return again and again.
