वालिवधोत्तरशोकः
Sugriva’s Remorse and Tara’s Lament after Vali’s Death
यद्यङ्गदो वीरवरार्ह जीवेत्जीवेच्छ माता परिपालनार्थम्।विना तु पुत्रं परितापदीनातारा न जीवेदिति निश्चितं मे4.24.21।।
yadyaṅgado vīravarārha jīvet jīveccha mātā paripālanārtham |
vinā tu putraṃ paritāpa-dīnā tārā na jīved iti niścitaṃ me ||
Jika Aṅgada—yang layak bagi para pahlawan terunggul—masih hidup, maka ibunya dapat terus hidup demi memelihara dan melindunginya; tetapi tanpa puteranya, Tārā yang dihancurkan dukacita tidak akan hidup. Inilah keyakinanku yang teguh.
Dharma includes compassion and protective responsibility toward the bereaved; the survival and care of dependents (mother and son) becomes a moral concern after violence.
Sugrīva worries about the aftermath for Tārā and Angada, linking Tārā’s will to live to Angada’s survival.
Empathy—attention to the suffering of others affected by one’s deeds.
