Jambū-khaṇḍa

FAQs

Jambū-khaṇḍa refers to the Purāṇic continental region (often aligned with Jambūdvīpa traditions) used to frame sacred geography and cosmological layout.

Viṣkambha means the breadth/diameter/overall extent—i.e., the dimension by which the size of Jambū-khaṇḍa is to be quantified.

The verse models disciplined inquiry: after receiving a correct account, the sages seek precise measurement “in truth” (tattvataḥ), emphasizing careful, exact understanding rather than vague acceptance.
