Pilgrimage Merits
Mahādeva (Śiva) (implied by 'mahādevena ... uktvā')
Concept: True steadiness is not being shaken by marvels; astonishment is a movement of the mind that a perfected being claims to transcend.
Application: When confronted with extraordinary events—praise, blame, success, spectacle—practice returning to composure and clear seeing.

The speaker is implied to be Mahādeva (Śiva), as the verse closes with “mahādevena … uktvā” (“having spoken thus, by Mahādeva”).
It conveys Śiva’s composure and steadiness—he does not become bewildered or astonished, and he invites the listener to witness his state directly.
The verse highlights mental steadiness (akṣobha): a disciplined person does not get carried away by surprise or spectacle, but remains composed and clear-sighted.
