भीष्म उवाच । बहुभिर्द्धरणी भुक्ता भूपालैः श्रूयते पुरा । पार्थिवाः पृथिवीयोगात्पृथिवी कस्य योगतः

bhīṣma uvāca | bahubhirddharaṇī bhuktā bhūpālaiḥ śrūyate purā | pārthivāḥ pṛthivīyogātpṛthivī kasya yogataḥ

Bhīṣma berkata: Pada zaman purba, didengar bahawa Bumi telah dinikmati—yakni diperintah—oleh ramai raja. Jika para pemerintah disebut “pārthiva” kerana hubungan mereka dengan Bumi, maka Bumi sendiri disebut “pṛthivī” kerana hubungan dengan siapa?
