Narration of the Greatness of Harivāsara

Ekādaśī, the Day Sacred to Hari

Unspecified (context-dependent within Brahma-khaṇḍa narrative)

Concept: Do not observe Ekādaśī when it is even slightly pierced by Daśamī; such flawed observance is said to destroy dharma, kāma, and artha—therefore the wise abandon it.

Application: When unsure, follow established Vaiṣṇava calendars/ācārya guidance; cultivate humility to ‘let go’ of a planned fast if it is doṣa-yukta.

Primary Rasa: bhayanaka

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A devotee stands before a Vishnu shrine with fasting vows in mind, but the ācārya raises a hand in firm prohibition, pointing to a faint shadow labeled ‘Daśamī-viddha’ crossing the Ekādaśī mark on a calendar. The devotee gently sets down the fasting implements, choosing wisdom over stubbornness, while the shrine lamp burns steady—approval through restraint.","primary_figures":["vaiṣṇava ācārya","devotee","Vishnu icon (in shrine)"],"setting":"temple veranda or household shrine room with a visible pañcāṅga, lamp, conch, and offerings arranged but withheld","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["warm amber","deep maroon","sacred white","emerald green","ink black"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Vishnu shrine with gold leaf halo; ācārya in rich robes stopping the devotee from beginning Ekādaśī due to Daśamī-viddha shown on a stylized calendar; gold leaf on ornaments and lamp flames, saturated reds/greens, intricate borders, gem-studded vessels, clear devotional iconography emphasizing restraint.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate interior with soft lamp glow; teacher’s gentle but firm gesture, devotee placing down a water pot and prayer beads; a small calendar with a dark overlap mark; refined faces, muted jewel tones, lyrical calm after warning.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, symmetrical shrine panel; ācārya pointing to a marked tithi chart; devotee in respectful posture; warm red-yellow-green palette, temple-wall aesthetic, strong didactic clarity.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: ornate floral border with conch and lotus motifs; central shrine with Krishna/Vishnu presence; devotee refrains from flawed fast as teacher indicates the ‘pierced’ tithi; deep blues and gold, intricate patterns, peacocks at corners, devotional discipline theme."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"dramatic","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["sharp bell strike","brief silence","low conch note","soft murmured mantra","lamp crackle"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes:

FAQs

It advises that if Ekādaśī is even slightly overlapped by Daśamī (daśamī-viddhā), the wise should abandon that Ekādaśī observance.

It warns that an improperly timed observance (with tithi impurity/overlap) can become counterproductive, undermining one’s religious merit (dharma) and one’s legitimate aims (kāma and artha).

Ritual discipline includes correct timing and discernment; sincerity should be paired with proper method rather than rigidly performing a vow under inauspicious or invalid conditions.
