The Greatness of the Month of Māgha
Māgha-snāna, Harivāsara, and the Kāṣṭhīlā-Upākhyāna
एतस्मात्कारणाद्भद्रे माघस्नानं विशिष्यते । अहन्यहनि दातव्यास्तिलाः शर्करयान्विताः ॥ १८ ॥
etasmātkāraṇādbhadre māghasnānaṃ viśiṣyate | ahanyahani dātavyāstilāḥ śarkarayānvitāḥ || 18 ||
Atas sebab itulah, wahai wanita yang diberkati, mandi pada bulan Māgha dianggap sangat utama dan berbuah pahala. Dan dari hari ke hari, hendaklah disedekahkan biji bijan yang dicampur gula sebagai pemberian harian.

By prescribing steady, repeated observances (daily bathing and daily giving), it supports bhakti as a lived discipline—purifying the devotee’s body and intention and cultivating a generous, sattvic disposition conducive to worship.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied: it specifies a time-bound rite (Māgha month snāna) and a daily dāna item (sesame with sugar), reflecting practical dharma-ritual application rather than grammar or astrology.
