The Narrative of the Pativrata
Narada (narrative voice within the Tirtha/Mahatmya section)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It presents a dharmic ideal where steadfast chastity and disciplined purity are sanctified by devotional vision—seeing the beloved lord as connected to the divine realm (the Milk Ocean, associated with Vishnu).
Bhakti is expressed as reverent perception: the devotee’s faith elevates ordinary relationship-duty into worship by mentally associating the husband with the divine abode of Vishnu and maintaining continual purity practices.
The verse emphasizes ritual discipline and śauca (purity) as applied practice—relevant to Kalpa (ritual procedure) rather than grammar or astrology—through repeated, time-bound purification (day and night).
