Adhyaya 70 — The King Confronts the Rakshasa and Restores the Brahmin’s Wife
राजोवाच कृतमेव त्वया सर्वं सर्वामेवातिथिक्रियाम् ।
किमर्थं ब्राह्मणवधूस्त्वयानीता निशाचर ॥
rājovāca kṛtam eva tvayā sarvaṃ sarvām evātithikriyām | kimarthaṃ brāhmaṇavadhūs tvayānītā niśācara ||
Raja berkata: “Sesungguhnya engkau telah melakukan segala-galanya—setiap adab layanan tetamu. Namun untuk tujuan apakah engkau membawa (menculik) isteri seorang Brahmin, wahai pengembara malam?”

The king separates courtesy from innocence: hospitality does not cancel crime. Ethical scrutiny targets the harm done to persons, not the politeness shown to power.
