Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a practical ethical principle: trust should be grounded in verification. Uttara is willing to believe, but he asks for recognizable identifiers (Arjuna’s well-known names) as a reasonable test before accepting a high-stakes claim.

In the Virāṭa episode, Uttara is being addressed by someone whose true identity is not yet fully accepted by him. Uttara proposes a proof: if the speaker can correctly recite the ten famous names of Arjuna (Pārtha), Uttara will accept the speaker’s account as true.
