Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 22 — Draupadī’s Abduction Attempt and Bhīma’s Suppression of the Kīcakas

शयानं शयने तत्र सूतपुत्र: परामृशत्‌ । जाज्वल्यमानं कोपेन कृष्णाधर्षणजेन ह,अतुलितपराक्रमी भीमसेन तो वहाँ पहलेसे ही आकर एकान्तमें एक शब्यापर लेटे हुए थे। खोटी बुद्धिवाला सूतपुत्र कीचक वहीं पहुँच गया और उन्हें हाथसे टटोलने लगा। उस समय भीमसेन कीचकढद्दारा द्रौपदीके अपमानके कारण क्रोधसे जल रहे थे

śayānaṃ śayane tatra sūtaputraḥ parāmṛśat | jājvalyamānaṃ kopena kṛṣṇādharṣaṇajenaha ||

Vaiśampāyana berkata: Di sana, ketika Bhīmasena berbaring di atas ranjang, Kīcaka—anak kepada sais kereta—datang lalu meraba-raba dengan tangannya. Bhīma, yang kekuatannya tiada terukur, menyala oleh amarah akibat penghinaan terhadap Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī).

The verse highlights the ethical consequence of adharma: violating another’s dignity—especially a woman’s honor—provokes righteous resistance. Bhīma’s anger is framed not as mere rage but as a dharmic response to protect the wronged and to restrain an aggressor.
