Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 21 — Kīcaka’s clandestine approach and Bhīma’s covert intervention (नर्तनागारे कीचकवध-प्रसङ्गः)
यच्च राष्ट्रात् प्रच्यवनं कुरूणामवधश्नच यः । सुयोधनस्य कर्णस्य शकुने: सौबलस्य च,जिस दिन हमें राज्यसे वज्चित किया गया, उसी दिन जो कौरवोंका वध नहीं हुआ, दुर्योधन, कर्ण, सुबलपुत्र शकुनि तथा पापी दुःशासनके मस्तक मैंने नहीं काट डाले, यह सब सोचकर मेरे हृदयमें काँटा-सा चुभ जाता है और शरीरमें आग लग जाती है। सुश्रोणि! तुम बड़ी बुद्धिमती हो, धर्मको न छोड़ो; क्रोधका त्याग करो
yac ca rāṣṭrāt pracyavanaṁ kurūṇām avadhaś ca yaḥ | suyodhanasya karṇasya śakuneḥ saubalasya ca ||
Bhīma berkata: “Pada hari kita diusir dari kerajaan—pada hari itulah—pembantaian kaum Kaurava tidak berlaku; aku tidak menumbangkan Suyodhana (Duryodhana), Karṇa, dan Śakuni putera Subala. Fikiran itu menikam hatiku seperti duri dan membakar seluruh diriku. Wahai wanita berpinggul elok, engkau bijaksana: jangan tinggalkan dharma; tinggalkanlah amarah.”
भीमसेन उवाच
Even when wronged and burning with the urge for revenge, one should not abandon dharma; anger must be restrained, and action should be guided by righteous conduct rather than impulsive wrath.
Bhīma recalls the moment the Pāṇḍavas were deprived of their kingdom and laments that he did not immediately kill key Kaurava figures (Duryodhana, Karṇa, Śakuni). He confesses the inner torment this causes, yet urges the addressed woman to remain steadfast in dharma and to renounce anger.
