Adhyāya 14: Sudēṣṇā Sends Sairandhrī to Kīcaka’s House (सुदेष्णा–सैरन्ध्री–कीचक संवादः)
चित्रमाल्याम्बरधरा सर्वाभरणभूषिता । काम प्रकामं सेव त्वं मया सह विलासिनि,“विलासिनि! विचित्र माला और सुन्दर वस्त्र धारण करके समस्त आभूषणोंसे विभूषित हो मेरे साथ अतिशय कामभोगका सेवन करो
citramālyāmbaradharā sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā | kāmaṃ prakāmaṃ seva tvaṃ mayā saha vilāsini ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Wahai wanita yang gemar berkelana dalam senda, mengenakan kalung bunga beraneka dan busana indah, berhias dengan segala perhiasan—nikmatilah kesenangan indera sepuas hatimu bersamaku.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds how sensual desire can be expressed through displays of luxury and persuasive speech, setting up an ethical contrast: dharma requires restraint and respect, while unchecked kāma—especially when backed by status—can become coercive and disruptive.
In the Virāṭa court context, a man addresses a woman as “vilāsini,” describing her garlands, garments, and ornaments, and urges her to join him in unrestricted enjoyment. It functions as a narrative moment of solicitation/temptation that tests propriety and self-control.
