पुरुषस्य परे लोके कीर्तिरेव परायणम् | इह लोके विशुद्धा च कीर्तिरायुर्विवर्द्धनी,परलोकमें कीर्ति ही पुरुषके लिये सबसे महान् आश्रय है। इस लोकमें भी विशुद्ध कीर्ति आयु बढ़ानेवाली होती है
puruṣasya pare loke kīrtir eva parāyaṇam | iha loke viśuddhā ca kīrtir āyur-vivarddhanī ||
Karna berkata: “Bagi seorang lelaki, di alam selepas mati, nama baik sahaja menjadi perlindungan tertinggi. Dan di dunia ini juga, reputasi yang suci dan tidak tercemar menyokong kehidupan, bahkan dikatakan menambah panjang umur.”
कर्ण उवाच
The verse elevates kīrti (honorable fame) as a lasting support: it benefits a person after death as a moral legacy, and in life it functions as a sustaining force—encouraging virtuous conduct, social trust, and the kind of disciplined living that is traditionally said to prolong one’s life.
Karna is speaking in the Vana Parva context, articulating a warrior-ethical viewpoint: that one should act so as to secure pure renown, since reputation outlives the body and serves as one’s enduring refuge both in this world and beyond.
