Rāma–Rāvaṇa Encounter under Illusion
तां जहार बलाद राजा मूढबुद्धिर्जयद्रथ: । तस्या: संहरणात् पाप: शिरस: केशपातनम्,ऐसी स्त्रीका भी मूढ़बुद्धि पापी राजा जयद्रथने बलपूर्वक अपहरण किया। इस अपहरणके ही कारण उसका सिर मूँड़ा गया, वह अपने सहायकों-सहित युद्धमें पराजित हुआ तथा हमलोग सिन्धु-देशकी सेनाका संहार करके पुनः द्रौपदीको लौटा लाये हैं
tāṁ jahāra balād rājā mūḍhabuddhir jayadrathaḥ | tasyāḥ saṁharaṇāt pāpaḥ śirasaḥ keśapātanam ||
Yudhiṣṭhira berkata: “Wanita itu telah dilarikan secara paksa oleh raja Jayadratha, si pendosa yang akalnya tersesat. Akibat penculikan itu, rambut di kepalanya telah dicukur sebagai kehinaan.”
युधिषछ्िर उवाच
Forcible violation of another’s dignity (especially the abduction of a protected woman) is adharma and brings public disgrace and punitive consequences; power without right conduct is condemned as deluded and sinful.
Yudhiṣṭhira recalls that Jayadratha abducted Draupadī by force; as a consequence of that wrongdoing, Jayadratha was punished with the humiliating cutting/shaving of his hair, marking his defeat and dishonor.
