The verse highlights discernment and proper recognition of persons by their qualities—strength, discipline, and way of life—suggesting that character and conduct (such as steadfast mountain-dwelling austerity and martial readiness) reveal identity and standing.
Koṭika points out a particular warrior who is watching the addressed person: a wide-eyed hero carrying a great bow, adorned with flower garlands, identified as the eldest son of the Kulinda king and described as one who habitually lives in the mountains.
