The verse foregrounds dharmic social order: one should first honor parents, then elders and teachers, and only thereafter acknowledge seniority among siblings. Such disciplined reverence is presented as a stabilizing ethic for family and polity.
A figure (described through actions rather than named in this line) formally pays obeisance—first to mother and father, then to the great elders Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and Kṛpa, and to the wise Vidura. Next, the younger brothers approach and bow to Duryodhana, emphasizing rank and protocol within the Kuru household.
