Duryodhana’s Return toward Hastinapura; Karṇa’s Consolation
यास्ता: प्रव्रजमानां त्वां प्राहसन् दर्पमोहिता: । ताः क्षिप्रं हतसंकल्पा द्रक्ष्यसि त्वं कुरुस्त्रिय:,“तुम्हारे वन जाते समय अभिमानसे मोहित हो कुरुकुलकी जिन स्त्रियोंने तुम्हारी हँसी उड़ायी थी, उनकी आशाओंपर पानी फिर जायगा और तुम उन्हें शीघ्र ही दुरवस्थामें पड़ी हुई देखोगी
yāstāḥ pravrajamānāṁ tvāṁ prāhasan darpa-mohitāḥ | tāḥ kṣipraṁ hata-saṅkalpā drakṣyasi tvaṁ kuru-striyaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Wanita-wanita Kuru yang, dibutakan oleh keangkuhan, mengejekmu ketika engkau berangkat ke rimba—engkau akan segera melihat mereka dengan rancangan mereka hancur, harapan mereka musnah, jatuh hina dan ditimpa kesengsaraan.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Mockery born of pride (darpa) and delusion (moha) is ethically blameworthy and unstable; such arrogance tends to collapse, and those who rejoice in another’s suffering may soon face reversal and humiliation through the working of karma and the restoration of moral order.
The speaker foretells a reversal of fortune: the Kuru women who ridiculed the addressee during her departure to forest-exile will soon be seen in a fallen condition, their plans and hopes thwarted.
