Educational Q&A

The verse elevates desire into a dharmic ideal: to become ‘mothers of all the worlds’ symbolizes universal care, protection, and selfless nurturing—an ethical orientation toward the common good rather than narrow personal aims.

Within Mārkaṇḍeya’s narration, the maidens voice a collective wish (optative ‘bhavema’) to attain an exalted, beneficent status—framing their intention as one of universal guardianship and nurturing.
