Shloka 12

Skanda–Mātṛgaṇa-janma: Kumārakāḥ, Kanyāgaṇāḥ, and the Vīrāṣṭaka (स्कन्द-मातृगण-सम्भवः)

कर्मदोषश्न वै विद्वन्नात्मजातिकृतेन ते । कज्चित्‌ कालमुष्यतां वै ततो5सि भविता द्विज:,विद्वन! आपको जो यह कर्मदोष (दूषित कर्म) प्राप्त हुआ है, वह आपके पूर्वजन्मके कर्मका फल है। इस जन्मके नहीं। अत: कुछ कालतक और इसी रूपमें रहें। फिर आप ब्राह्मण हो जायँगे

karmadoṣo na vai vidvann ātmajātikṛtena te | kañcit kālam uṣyatāṃ vai tato ’si bhavitā dvijaḥ ||

Brahmin itu berkata: “Wahai orang bijaksana, noda perbuatan (karmadoṣa) yang menimpa dirimu ini bukanlah akibat amalan dalam kelahiran sekarang. Ia adalah buah karma dari kewujudan yang lampau. Maka, tinggallah dalam keadaan ini untuk beberapa waktu lagi; kemudian engkau akan menjadi seorang Brahmana semula.”
