Adhyāya 160: Dikpāla-Cosmography and the Sun’s Kālacakra (दिक्पाल-विश्ववर्णनम् तथा आदित्यस्य कालचक्रम्)
नानृते कुरुषे भावं कच्चिद् धर्मे प्रवर्तसे । मातापित्रोश्व ते वृत्ति: कच्चित् पार्थ न सीदति,“कुन्तीनन्दन! कभी झूठकी ओर तो तुम्हारा मन नहीं जाता? तुम धर्ममें लगे रहते हो न? माता-पिताके प्रति जो तुम्हारी सेवावृत्ति होनी चाहिये, वह है न? उसमें शिथिलता तो नहीं आयी है?
nānṛte kuruṣe bhāvaṁ kaccid dharme pravartase | mātāpitroś ca te vṛttiḥ kaccit pārtha na sīdati ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Wahai putera Kuntī! Adakah fikiranmu pernah cenderung kepada dusta? Adakah engkau teguh berpegang pada dharma? Dan, wahai Pārtha, adakah bakti serta kewajipanmu terhadap ibu dan ayah tetap kukuh—tidakkah ia menjadi longgar?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores three ethical pillars: avoiding falsehood (anṛta), remaining active in dharma (right conduct and duty), and maintaining steadfast service and respect toward one’s parents—warning against any decline in these foundational virtues.
Vaiśampāyana, in his narration, reports a concerned inquiry addressed to Pārtha (Arjuna), checking whether his moral resolve is intact: whether he is truthful, committed to dharma, and unwavering in his obligations toward his parents.
