लोके क्षीणे क्षयं यान्ति भावा लोकप्रवर्तका: । युगक्षयकृता धर्माः प्रार्थनानि विकुर्वते,लोकके क्षीण होनेपर उसके प्रवर्तक भावोंका भी क्षय हो जाता है। युग-क्षयजनित धर्म मनुष्यकी अभीष्ट कामनाओंके विपरीत फल देते हैं

loke kṣīṇe kṣayaṁ yānti bhāvā lokapravartakāḥ | yugakṣayakṛtā dharmāḥ prārthanāni vikurvate ||

Apabila dunia merosot, dorongan dan kecenderungan yang menggerakkan masyarakat juga turut layu. Dan apabila sesuatu zaman sampai ke penghujungnya, bentuk-bentuk dharma yang terbentuk oleh kerosotan itu memesongkan cita-cita manusia—memberi hasil yang bertentangan dengan apa yang mereka kehendaki.
