Akṛtavraṇa’s Account Begins: Gādhi–Satyavatī–Ṛcīka and the Bhārgava Lineage Prelude
tataḥ prasādayāmāsa śvaśuraṃ sā punaḥ punaḥ | na me putro bhaved īdṛk kāmaṃ pautro bhaved iti |
Kemudian dia berulang kali memohon untuk menenangkan hati bapa mertuanya, lalu berkata: “Semoga anak lelakiku jangan menjadi seperti ini; biarlah cucuku, jika perlu, berwatak kṣatriya (golongan pahlawan).”
अकृतव्रण उवाच
The verse highlights moral agency within family and destiny: one may humbly seek to prevent the recurrence of an undesirable disposition in one’s immediate offspring, even while acknowledging that certain temperaments (like kṣatriya vigor) may manifest later. It underscores responsibility, foresight, and respectful supplication to elders.
A woman repeatedly pleads with her father-in-law to be pleased and to grant a favor: that her son should not be ‘of this kind’ (i.e., not inherit the problematic trait under discussion), even if a grandson later becomes kṣatriya-natured. The scene is framed as a request to redirect the outcome across generations.
