मैत्रेयागमनम् — The Arrival of Maitreya and the Admonition to Duryodhana
दण्डपाणिरिव क्ुद्ध: समरे प्रत्यधावत । तद् वृक्षयुद्धमभवन्महीरुहविनाशनम्
daṇḍapāṇir iva kruddhaḥ samare pratyadhāvat | tad vṛkṣayuddham abhavan mahīruhavināśanam ||
Seperti pemegang tongkat hukuman yang mengamuk, dia menerpa ke medan laga. Maka pertempuran dengan pokok-pokok yang dicabut itu pun menjadi adegan kebinasaan, merobohkan pohon-pohon besar dan menjadikan rimba sendiri mangsa amarah—tanda bahawa kemarahan dalam perang bukan sahaja memusnahkan musuh, bahkan merosakkan bumi yang menyara kehidupan.
विदुर उवाच
The verse uses the image of a punitive staff-bearer and the destruction of great trees to underline how uncontrolled anger in conflict spreads harm beyond the intended opponent, damaging the wider world and order (dharma) that punishment is meant to protect.
A combatant, furious, charges into battle; the fighting escalates into a 'tree-battle' where trees are used and destroyed, resulting in the ruin of large trees and the surrounding woodland.
