इन्द्रस्य दुःखप्राप्तिः—त्रिशिरोवधः, वृत्रोत्पत्तिः, जृम्भिकाजननम्

Indra’s Distress: Slaying of Triśiras, Birth of Vṛtra, and the Origin of Yawning

तदरण्यं महाराज यत्रास्तेडसौ निपातितः । स भीततस्तत्र तक्षाणं घटमानं शचीपति:,महाराज! वह बढ़ई उसी वनमें आया, जहाँ त्रिशिराको मार गिराया गया था। डरे हुए शचीपति इन्द्रने वहाँ अपना काम करते हुए बढ़ईको देखा। देखते ही पाकशासन इन्द्रने तुरंत उससे कहा--“बढ़ई! तू शीघ्र इस शवके तीनों मस्तकोंके टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दे। मेरी इस आज्ञाका पालन कर'

tad araṇyaṃ mahārāja yatrāste ’sau nipātitaḥ | sa bhītas tatra takṣāṇaṃ ghaṭamānaṃ śacīpatiḥ ||

Śalya berkata: “Wahai raja agung, di hutan itulah—tempat dia terbaring terbunuh—tuan kepada Śacī (Indra), yang dikuasai ketakutan, melihat seorang tukang kayu sedang melakukan kerjanya.” Baris ini menyiapkan latar bagi campur tangan Indra yang cemas di tempat jasad itu terbaring, mengisyaratkan ketegangan moral: bahkan dewa yang berkuasa, apabila gentar akan akibat, mencari langkah praktikal segera melalui perantaraan manusia.
